Gökhan TURAN

Ambassador Gökhan Turan was born on 21 October 1970 in Sivas province (Zara), Turkey.

1983-1988: Completed secondary and high school education at Krupp Gymnasium in Duisburg/Germany and at Ankara Anatolian High School in Turkey.

1988-1992: Graduated from the Department of International Relations of Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Sciences; eventually received a master’s degree in international relations in 2010 from the Middle East Technical University’s Institute of Social Sciences.

1992-1994: Attaché in the Deputy Directorate-General for Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara

1994-1995: Military service

1995:Attaché in the Deputy Directorate-General for Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara

1995-1997: Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Almaty

1997-2000: Vice Consul at the Turkish Consulate-General in Stuttgart

2000-2002: Second Secretary and later First Secretary in the Deputy Directorate-General for Eastern Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara

2002-2006: First Secretary and later Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow

2006-2008: Deputy Chief of Mission, Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Kiev

2008-2010: Head of Department in the Deputy Directorate-General for Eastern Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara

2010-2012: Deputy Chief of Mission, First Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Warsaw

2012-2013: Deputy Chief of Mission, First Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow

2013-2015: Deputy Chief of Mission, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow

2015-2018: Acting Deputy Director General, later Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Director General for Central Asia and South Caucasus at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara

Ambassador Turan has arrived in Vilnius on 22 December 2018.

He is married with two children and speaks German, English and Russian.
